    spectacularly wrong song lyrics

"if there's something strange in your neighbourhood, who you gonna call? those bastards!" - ray parker jr

"you picked a fine time to leave me, lucille, four hundred children and a crop in the field" - kenny rogers

and my personal favourite, a lyric which i was genuinely convinced was correct for some reason (it being a song i remember hearing on the radio a couple of times as a kid), and was shocked to be ridiculed by the entire back room of a large drinking den when i earnestly joined in to the same song on the jukebox having not heard for many years since ...

"i've been through the desert on a horse with no legs" - america
"i know enough to know what's instantly forgettable"

on behalf of the philistines here, what are the original lyrics?

I have no way of knowing if you were a goose or a prize-winning goose.

"i've been through the desert on a horse with no legs, it felt good... etc." - america
Unlike no "legs" the original version the original lyrics goes like this:
"i've been through the desert on a horse with no sex, it felt good... etc." - america

It was a protest song condemning sex with animals, offering an alternative:
surviving a ride in the desert without doing your horse but masturbating instead.
(As one could expect the church protested and the artists where forced to alter the lyrics)

    ^

the original lyrics in question were, in fact, "i've been through the desert on a horse with no name, it felt good to get out of the rain"

... but you might not want to take my word for that, given my track record here
"i know enough to know what's instantly forgettable"

"Hold me closer Tony Danza" - Elton John - Tiny Dancer

Now that I think of it, maybe that IS what he was saying, or wishing it at least.
    ---------------------------------------------
"There's a darkness upon me that's flooded in light.
In the fine print they tell me what's wrong from what's right.
It comes in Black and it comes in White and I'm frightened
by those who don't see it."

As a kid, with no internet and hardly understanding any English I misunderstood a LOT of songs
I wrote down a lot of songs, at first in a sort of phonetic English. Even translated in more common English it sort of is painful what i came up with, lol.
Thankfully I forgot most of my misunderstood lyrics but one or two still come to mind.

    Like

"See that curl, watch dad scream, kicking the dan sing 'queen'..." Dancing Queen, Abba
(May God forgive me for sort of liking Abbba back then)
Later I discovered it should be
"See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen"
    Ah well... lol

Yeah, well... what can I say, except the fact that I was just an ignorant boy...
    Oh wait:
How about you try to figure out what a DUTCH song says, without the aid of the internet, with only the phonetic approach, lol ?!
Here you go. Same era, same shitty (horrific) style:

One or two of you old geezers might actually know the song, since (sorry world) it won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1975 and that version had English lyrics.
Sadly (for you) the rather silly English lyrics had absolutely nothing to do with the (better) original Dutch lyrics -grin-
