Is this really a "we" (Not only germany, but every nation)? In my opinion this is just a bunch of individuals who happen to be a member of a certain country just by chance and are doing more or less their hobby. AND they are still complaining about lack of "national" support and income. I have an idea: Get a job!![]()
If there is a medal and (imagined) national pride at stake I will take every medal we can get (not many)
but to illustrate your point, one of our bronze medalists, Izzy Atkins, has an English father, a Malayasian mother, grew up and lives in Utah. When they interviewed her she sounded as British as mom's apple pie and baseball.
Although I am not sure how much funding she would have gotten from our government to train and compete. Probably doing it as her hobby then realising she is awesome at it and then picking the country she wants to compete for from the list of possible options.
For Izzy though, being a medalist for Britain on skis is a stand out performance, if she had chosen to compete for America it might have been less so. If she had gone with Malaysia, a winter olympic medal would have made her a legend, possibly ended up as a movie.
She chose Britain, I am sure we didn't help her out financially (although the way our sport funding works we might dip our hands into our pockets now she is a medalist); therefore she must feel she is British and that to me is all that matters.
Better go put some glue on those Norwegian skis when they're not looking.
In other news, a Russian curling athlete has been accused of doping. heeheeheeee
Does it really take a huge roided up guy to sweep with the little broom? that's funny.
The mixed biathlon relay was a great race - if that's your kind of thing. So was the women's 3000m short track ice skating relay. Amazing.
I saw it too and was in the near of a heart attack.
After three runners our Team was in lead with around one minute to the second one.
But then the last runner,Arnd Pfeiffer, had a bad day.Especially the shooting was a disaster.
And finally they finished the race on the fourth place. That was disappointing.
BTW I'm watching live the ice hockey match between Germany and Sweden at the moment and we're in lead with 2-0.
Edit:Jesus ! We really made it ! 3-4 after overtime. Now half-final against Canada or Finland
