    I thought for a) it might be

    {
    {
    {
    {
    Seventeen Hundred (5 e's)

    Still working on b) though

    Is it maybe the number of sylables?

    ^ you can have that one

    i went with one hundred and eleven as it's the first number you'd find with 5 es, but the principle is the same (and "seven" isn't the 1st number with 2 es, after all - it just ties in nicely with the other sequence)

    syllables, you say? - hmm. what would come next there?

    "i know enough to know what's instantly forgettable"

    we have a winner ..... surprisingly, a brit

    absorb begins/ends with AB, comprehend with CD, engulf with EF, so any word beginning/ending GH would do the trick

    not really a riddle, just an intersting curio ....

    can you find the sinister connection between david bowie, barry gibb, and ringo starr, all pictured here doing a particular thing?

    nothing obvious springs to mind, but it is quite funny to imagine
    either of the first two narrating Thomas the Tank Engine.
