There isn't a 'good' option on the table at the moment.
Option 1 - Eventually puts nukes in the hands of a group too stupid to realise they can't use them and once one is used it's an armageddon free for all (bye bye life on earth)
Option 2 - Causes tension with nations not at the nuclear table, they will always want them and always cause strife trying to get them by any means they can; puts nuclear technology in the hands of groups that are worse than nation states would be.
Option 3 - Can't happen (prisoners dilema), if I just keep one of mine and they all get rid of theirs, I will be the most powerful nation on earth (cue evil laughter). So everyone keeps one; you know just in case some one else does - and so it escalates again.

My option would be for the nations of the earth to work together (like we did for the ISS) and develop a more benign technology that makes nukes obsolete (SCI FI writers have had a few ideas; EM shielding, Half life depletion, orbital platforms, giving control to our lizard overlords who will farm humans for food)

    I voted #2, despite it's being unworkable.

What we actually have is #1 despite our best efforts.

I voted # 3 like the vast majority but you know it will never happen.

must admit i'm surprised at the popularity of #2 - i can only assume those votes come with a proviso that nations without the bomb can broker a deal to rely on nations with the bomb to help out in times of dire need

^ It's amazing, the strategic importance of having #2 operative in the real world

This is called "Nuclear Sharing" and is a common practice at NATO. Even long after the end of the cold war there are still some US-Nuclear Warheads at German Airbases, guarded by US-Airmen. Ready to be delivered by German Fighter-Bombers. I just hope the Luftwaffe is able to deploy a single working aircraft for that task, should the need arise. Over decades of cuts to the funds, our army is just a shadow of former times....

Nuclear Weapons should be covered by the 2nd Amendment
I didn't see that option on the poll.
