we've been a bit busy with our own news where i am and we've missed out on the shenanigans stateside

    Oh, yeah...

As far as the Donald goes, I really quit watching the news so I don't know if he made an ass out of himself today.
I did see he picked some guy I've never heard of to be his VP.

Apparently some of Bernie's supporters are not pleased and are putting their support because Jill Stein, the presumptive Green Party presidential nominee
because they feel the need to exercise their right to piss their vote away.

    Cool

Stephen Colbert Hijacks Mic at RNC
    Sunday, July 17, 2016

Stephen Colbert unofficially kicked off the Republican National Convention before it was supposed to start, and he insulted presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, while he was at it.

The "Late Show" host took the stage at the RNC in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday dressed as his "Hunger Games" alter ego.

"[Trump] has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence," he started, before feigning sleep. "Sorry, I blacked out there for a moment. It is my honor to hereby launch and begin the 2016 Republican National Hungry-for-Power Games!"

At this point, security had begun to pull him off the stage. Nevertheless, he went on to say, "Look, I know I'm not supposed to be up here — but to be honest, neither is Donald Trump!"

Somewhere deep in my subconscious lurks a horrible suspicion that angry voters could once again upset the apple cart. The evidence - fractured parliaments in Spain, Italy, Ireland, Australia, US, etc; unexpected results like Brexit; rising nationalism like in Hungary, Poland, Turkey, US, China; increasing isolationism and protectionism... And on it goes. The frightening feeling is that Trump could actually win in the post-fact, angry time. Scary.

    ^

    i share the concern there

my worry is that we could see a situation similar to that we've just had in the uk, with people believing their vote has no chance of making a difference and so entering a protest vote, conscience-free, in the knowledge that their choice won't count .... when, of course, all those votes did add up and count after all

america, please remember that voting the donald into office will serve no other purpose than to make you the laughing stock of the world

edit: just to clarify, i believe britain reached the right result albeit for the wrong reasons - the brexit vote should still stand as a warning to always vote the way you truly favour and never try to second guess an electorate

seen on british tv this morning:

a brief interview with one of the attendees at the republican congress after donald trump's speech accepting the party nomination - she described trump as coming across as "very presidential, not crazy" - remember this was from one of the party faithful that's politically invested enough to be in the hall

if that doesn't say it all .....

Toto, better rethink! At least Hillary is predictable and Europe will be americas donkey like all the decades before. President Trump would be nothing like a big black box and no one knows whats inside. Does he even have some kind of political concept? Regarding US-EU relations i have only heard some stuff like "making better deals for america", "let Europe defend itself", "leaving NATO 'cause we need our Lads at home" and the like. This does sound even worse....

Regarding our Angie i'm with you, but there is no alternative. As long as "her party + the socialdemocrats + the greens + the liberals >50%" NOTHING will change and we will have that Iron Frau forever.
