    Does that advice still hold?
On that note, I remember a few years back we had a retired Government offical here in the UK admit that all of the advice on how to survive a nuclear war that they gave out in the 60's and 70's was all made up, wouldn't work and was designed to poster the hope that we stood a chance of living through it.
Wonder what they will do now if the threat level starts to rise. Filling a bath with cold water, taking the doors of their hinges to make a lean to shelter and then putting a mattress over it seems bit flimsy. Whilst you reach betwen your legs to kiss your ass goodbye, I will still be trying to work out where I left my screw driver set to get the bloody doors off.

Since I live 7 miles away from probably the largest nuclear weapon depository in the world I've never given any thought to surviving.

It's a shame, too. I live where it's not too cold, not too hot, sunshine 300 days a year, no earthquake hurricanes tornadoes tsunami or volcano danger. An ideal location, safety-wise.

As long as there's no nuclear war.

We've got an air force base (Davis-Monthan) about 8 miles away and a military contractor (Raytheon) in two places (some 5 miles away, some 13 miles)
I doubt we'd see much more than the initial flash.

on a previous mention of likely vapourisation I looked up how close
you are to Roswell (mistakingly conflating it with Area51). The actual
location of Area51 is still too close, but it did occur to me that we
now have proof that there is no alien stuff because,

    a. your loudmouth president would have sharted about it on twitter.

    or

    b. his son-in-law would have indiscreetly sold the info to a dodgy 3rd party.

"More than 118" missiles fired at Syria. No casualties. Hm. Great news, but seems a bit far-fetched.

I'm assuming Trump gave Russia a heads-up like he did a year ago. Maybe told the Syrians too.

While this may make sense and be a smart thing to do - avoiding casualties and not provoking a Russian response; isn't that actual collusion with Russia?

    Don't tell Chuck Schumer.

I was in a comment section earlier and the story was why Germany wasn't involved in the air strikes
and "because Merkel didn't get caught sleeping with Stormy, have the ex-head of the FBI call her morally unfit
or have her lawyer's records seized so she didn't need the distraction" just came out.

    I couldn't help myself.

Currently a number of republic*nts are clicking thumbs down on my post like that does something.

The difference between us and France,GB and the USA is that Merkel isn't Commander-in-Chief.
We had bad experience with that in the past. She can't ordering any air strikes.
Every miltary decision must approved by our parliament and before they make a decision the war is already over.
