"Congratulations" on a new judge for the Supreme Court. With all these Christians on the bench I bet they will change the name to the Evangelic Supreme Court of America. And their rulings will be similar to a Sharia court. I feel sorry for my liberal American friends.

My German friend, married for 17 years, with 2 teenage daughters, was just informed by his wife she wants a divorce.
No warning, out of a clear blue sky, according to him. He's devastated.
I hope the girls come through it ok.

    sigh.

I really don't mind getting up early Saturday to take Mom to the beauty shop. In return for making the sacrifices to care for her she helps me out financially when I need it (seldom, but crucial), so it's a mutually beneficial thing.

Still, I wouldn't be me if I didn't find a way to humorously kvetch.

Why do women of her generation have to do this, while modern women don't? I don't know any women my age or younger who get their hair 'done'.

Why, in this day and age, don't women all have a thing at home to instantly do their hair like Jane and Judy Jetson have?

and Why, when googling 'jane jetson gets hair done', do I get cartoon porn?

Women and their hair are a special relationship.

    More A R T Boondoggle News

Yes, the years-past-due, business-killing, mainstreet-destroying, bad-idea-from-the-concept catastrophe known as Albuquerque Rapid Transit has hit yet another snag and delay. I'm shocked.

Our new Mayor has axed acquisition of the $23 million dollar new electric buses and sent them back to the Chinese company that made them in California.

"Some of the issues included battery life and problems with buses lining up with ART platforms.
There are multiple mechanical issues. They were often malfunctioning; the doors were not working," said Keller.
Officials say bolts were falling off the doors and the buses' back doors would open on their own while being driven. In addition, the buses' air conditioning and brakes were not functioning properly."

So, we ordered and got buses that don't allow people to get on or off safely on platforms designed for them, don't have brakes or a/c, and the doors open on their own while driving down the road. There will be years-long lawsuits out of this.

    Good work guys.

They realize it's a disaster, and considered ending it and going back to what actually works, but....

"This sort of idea that we can undo this and return the world the way it was before, we priced that out, it was about $200 million," Keller said.

So there's no going back, we're just stuck with the monumental apocalypse. We have ordered new buses from another company and it'll be 18 months before they get here, and maybe those won't work...

Meanwhile, I drove down the street twice this morning. The middle 2 lanes of the street stand empty, with forlorn, unused bus stations dotted along it. For 8 miles.
The buses and traffic continue the way they always have in the open lanes, working just fine.
