About 6 months ago, I tried to grab a can of applesauce out of the pantry, and the can was frozen to the shelf. (it was way in the back)
When I finally soaked it enough with a warm rag to get in unstuck, it had expired shorty after Barack became President.

2x a year, everything is pulled out of there and cleaned well and I guess it just leaked out the bottom and stuck after one of those cleanings.
Upon further inspection, I threw away another half dozen cans or so. Apparently you CAN have too many black olives.

Trailblazing Star Trek Writer D.C. Fontana Dies at 80: 'She Was a Pioneer'.

Dorothy Catherine "D.C." Fontana is known for further developing the famous character, Spock.

Dorothy Catherine Fontana, a writer on the original Star Trek series, has died. She was 80 years old.

Fontana, who went professionally by “D.C.,” passed away “peacefully” on Monday after fighting a brief illness, the American Film Institute announced Tuesday in a press release obtained by PEOPLE.

The writer is credited with developing the Spock character’s backstory and “expanding Vulcan culture,” SyFy reported of her massive contribution to the beloved sci-fi series. Fontana was the one who came up with Spock’s childhood history revealed in “Yesteryear,” an episode in Star Trek: The Animated Series, on which she was both the story editor and associate producer.

As the outlet pointed out, Fontana was also responsible for the characters of Spock’s parents, the Vulcan Sarek and human Amanda, who were introduced in the notable episode “Journey to Babel.”

In fact, Fontana herself said that she hopes to be remembered for bringing Spock to life.

“Primarily the development of Spock as a character and Vulcan as a history/background/culture from which he sprang,” she said in a 2013 interview published on the Star Trek official site, when asked what she thought her contributions to the series were.

With Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, she also penned the episode “Encounter at Farpoint,” which launched The Next Generation in 1987. The episode introduced Captain Picard, played by Patrick Stewart, and earned the writing pair a Hugo Award nomination.

Not only was Fontana responsible for creating much of Star Trek canon, she also “helped blaze a trail for female writers in sci-fi television,” the official website said in its obituary. “Fontana’s credits to Star Trek cannot be understated, both as a writer of great stories and as a trailblazer for other women.”

In the 2013 interview, Fontana said that though she was a writer in Hollywood in the 1960s, she didn’t necessarily think of herself as a rarity — but instead felt she was part of “an elite” group.

“At the time, I wasn’t especially aware there were so few female writers doing action adventure scripts,” she said. “There were plenty doing soaps, comedies, or on variety shows. By choosing to do action adventure, I was in an elite, very talented and very different group of women writers.”

And for her work in the genre, Fontana is remembered for breaking ground for women in science fiction.

William Shatner, who famously portrayed Captain James Kirk in the Star Trek universe, mourned the loss of Fontana on Twitter on Tuesday, calling her a “pioneer.”

“She was a pioneer,” he said. “Her work will continue to influence for generations to come.”

In addition to her many Star Trek contributions, Fontana’s writing credits include episodes on The Waltons, Bonanza, Babylon 5 and The Six Million Dollar Man.

The writer is survived by husband Dennis Skotak, Variety reported, and the family is asking that donations be sent to either the Humane Society, Best Friends Animal Society or the American Film Institute in lieu of flowers.

My mood is incredulous and mad this morning.

We have a neighbor (a ways down the street) who's a bit of a bitch and he doesn't like us feeding the cats around here. Him and I have had words before and often.

Today we got a knock at the door from someone claiming to be from the city, saying that we had to stop feeding the cats or we would be treated as their owner
and the "massive amounts of people" that called them about the scratches on their cars could sue us.

As I'm talking to the guy, I realize that neighbor is standing in his yard watching this with a joyful look on his face and I realize something stinks.
I offer the guy a soda, come in the house, call my husband (the lawyer) who comes flying home
and he proceeds to notice this white van the guy is driving has no "City of Tucson" sign on it.

When my husband mentions that, the guy says it's his personal vehicle and when he asks for a business card, the guy was "out of them"
so my husband walks out, takes a picture of the dude's license plate and calls the non-emergency number for the cops here and the guy couldn't drive off quick enough.

About an hour goes by and the cops show up, they don't know what they can do about it but they are going to contact the owner of the van
and they spent about 15 minutes beating on our neighbors door and having a very animated conversation with him.

After they left, the dude came out in his yard to scream "Fuck You!!!" at us.

In all honesty, the two of us have been discussing putting a halt to feeding the strays but I may just continue to do it for a while to piss this guy off.
The douchebag sent a fake city guy to try to get his way.

Wtf. That's weird and glad you guys called the cops. Watch out for him.
Could you be liable for damage to cars, etc.? Seems a stretch but you never know.

As someone married to a lawyer, anyone can be sued for anything...but they'd have to prove a cat I fed did it.

I'll blow if seriously fucked with, but I'm a generally positive person, all who know me are aware of this. I'm in a good mood almost always, am happy in the morning, and not a grump at all. Every relationship I've had I've been the calm steady one, the peacemaker etc.

Except for one day, maybe once every couple/few years. Just like my rare insomnia.

Today I an not in a good mood. Life kinda sucks for me and I don't like it. I had to take mum to the doc today. They made us wait and while I didn't go off, it was damn close. My mother had no idea.

I'm staying away from everyone on a day like today, fortunately they are very rare.

Ah, what a difference a day and a good sleep makes - I am my usual self again See you in another 3 years, bad mood!
I tried several things, what worked was going to bed at 8pm, reading and listening to distant thunderstorm ambient sound until sleep claimed me.
Now I'm up at 4:30, feeling great.

It made me think how sorry I am for people who feel this often, or worse, all the time. It strikes me my mother may be the latter - and that explains a lot, including why I felt this way, and how incredibly lucky I am it's only once every 3 years. phew.

    Life is Good
