just been reminded of this ancient riddle and thought i'd post it for people to have a go at - you'll get more out of it if you try and work it out rather than googling it
a king calls together the 3 wisest men in his kingdom, all master logicians, and tells them that whoever is first to answer a simple question will become his new chief minister
the king explains that the 3 men will be blindfolded and led to a room where they will be seated in a triangle, each facing the other 2 men
a hat will be placed on each man's head - it will either be a blue hat or a white hat, but there will definitely be at least 1 blue hat on 1 of their heads
only when all is in place will the blindfolds be removed
the 3 men will not be allowed to communicate either with each other or anyone else in any way, or employ any method to look at their own hat (no mirrored surfaces, faked fits, etc.)
the question they will have to answer is "what colour hat are you wearing?"
all this comes to pass and the 3 men find themselves in a room, facing each other with hats on
for what seems like hours, the men look at each other, saying nothing
then one stands up and says "my hat is ......."
you should be able to work out what colour hat the chap is wearing and also the colour of the other 2 hats as well
it's a logic puzzle, so no off-the-wall, outside-the-box answers (it's not one of jag's fuckwit puzzles )
once you've got it, you may want to refrain from posting the answer or otherwise hide it in some way so as to give others a fair crack at it
