could you feasily imagine superman without a cape?

what does supes actually need a cape for anyway? - for somebody that can actually fly, a cape seems like an unnecessarily draggy hindrance

as carl ollivier-gooch, professor of mechanical engineering, says "let’s say superman is flying at only 300 km per hour (considerably slower than a speeding bullet), and that his cape is about 60 by 150 cm - the drag on his cape is going to be about 375 n (around 40 kg) - that’s about half what i’d estimate the drag for his body would be - the cape looks cool but it’s terrible aerodynamically"

i can't think of too many practical reasons supes would prefer a cape other than actively slowing himself down for some reason - maybe it's akin to having a couple of beers before jumping into bed with your favourite porn star so as not to turn a marathon into a sprint

suppose, just for a moment, that some enterprising comic book artist decided to draw a new version of superman without a cape tho - would that artist get laughed out of town, indefinitely suspended from work down at his comic book headquarters?

would a capeless kal-el be something you could get on board with?

given superman's lifestyle (getting shot at by crims who didn't get the memo, being beaten up by 20 foot alien beasties, et cetera), it makes no sense for the actual costume material of earthly design - perhaps a cape was a staple of kryptonian style

in other versions, the material is indeed eathly but supes emits a kind of forcefield protecting anything on his body surface up to about an inch away - that wouldn't explain how his billowing cape doesn't get regularly ripped to shreds tho

one of the earliest incarnations of superman's story had it that ma kent made him a suit from kryptonian material found with baby kal in the space pod - ma kent must truly have been a superhero herself if she could get a needle and thread through material that could stop a bullet

what do you guys think is a reasonable origin for superman's costume?

I think it's in the Superhero Union rules

Superman had trouble with his love life, too.

only if he has the mullet - which is like a tiny hair cape stuck to the back
    of his head.

Speaking of superfluous capes, a popular scifi aesthetic I can't get behind
is where someone is wearing futuristic body armour, including a helmet that
covers their entire head... then a flimsy fabric cape/cloak/poncho over the
top. Even worse is when they are wearing the hood up over the helmet.

we've all seen endgame by now, right? - nevertheless, be warned that negligable spoilers may follow .....

today, i am wondering about the dietary advice offered by the m.c.u. - at the end of infinity war, thanos initiates his jazz snap (why he has to snap his fingers, i don't know) and kicks off dusting half of existence out the picture

all this takes place in the haze of wakandan daylight, late afternoon at the latest - in endgame, the movie kicks off with some certain characters disappearing in iowa (some 9 hours behind wakanda) - therefore, it must still be breakfast time in iowa, but these guys are already eating hot dogs

disney has clamped down on smoking in it's movies yet seems perfectly happy to advocate junk food for the most important meal of the day - double standards much??

these are the things i think about ........ sorry

of a sausage-laden 'full english breakfast' under the rug.
