Best of luck to everyone affected by Dorian. Did an over night offshore fishing trip the end of last week about 50 miles out of Wachapreague VA. I wish the experience for everyone for stellar observation. No background lights, no moon, and not a cloud in the sky. 180+ degrees of stars overhead and 360 unobstructed degrees of viewing. Brilliant stars all the way down to the horizon line.

--6 mahi, and 3 bigeye tuna in the box and caught and released 2 small white marlin.

It's slowly but surely starting to cool down a bit (I'll believe the Monday and Tuesday rain when I see it though)
For the past week, we've been shutting off the swamp cooler about 1 AM or so.
It's usually about 70-75 when we do so & with the fans, it's just fine.

Humidity was about 50% when I got up this morning.

Ah, Fall. No more baking your brains in the heat. That first slight chill in the morning....

I've built stands for my shop propane heaters, incorporating combustion air brought to the units from outside via 3" flexible hoses, and cut an 8 x 4 hole in the door and installed a dampered register (adjustable for opening and closing). This is so I can now close the door and still have plenty of ventilation air; last winter I had to keep the door cracked and this made my feet cold so I also used a small electric heater which cost me $10-$20 a month; no more of that.

I've filled my 2 20lb. propane tanks, $25. This will get me through maybe half the winter, depending on use, so my shop heating bill for the winter will be at most about $75 - maybe $100 if I'm in there a whole lot, which I plan to do. I'm going to try to curtail heating my house, even with my small floor furnace and keeping it cool it still costs me at least $100/month for the natural gas to heat that uninsulated icebox, much more if it gets really cold.

I tested the heaters last night, and they work awesome. Bring on winter!

2:25 PM and we haven't even had the AC or swamp cooler on today.
It was supposed to get up to 81 but it's only 71 and it doesn't look like it will get much higher.

It was rainy and chilly this morning so after taking care of everything, the house cats & I curled up right back in bed until about noon.
There's an 80/70/30% chance of rain over Today/Tuesday/Wednesday so maybe we'll get more.

I hate the humidity (68% now) but any rain is good in the desert.
