You really find out who among your friends really care about you when your mother dies and you're suddenly alone.

My biker friends do. Other friends and extended family, not so much.

Been there as well. Although with my Australian family with whom I haven't spoke to since 5 years, now.
I recently sent them a letter to hear what they've been up to all these years, and I simply got no answer from them at all. No phone call, email, Skype.....nothing.
Guess some people got a stone instead of a heart.

Hopefully all my relatives here in Sicily are very nice people, so I don't really miss the Australians a lot. But, still.
I can't figure out all the silence (and maybe hate) they have in my regards, considering that I absolutely didn't do them no harm or caused any troubles at all. Go figure......

So I now have a tablet to add to the arsenal of useless shit in my house. And in starting to use it for the one or two things that this thing is good for, I realized it has one more thing that pisses me off:

The keypad/keyboard, whatev.

While most of the letters are in the right place for a "qwerty" keyboard, the "special" characters are not. And now I have 5 devices that have these stupid little characters in different places. As I sit on this laptop and try to type an exclamation point, I get a capital "A" because that's what I got used to over the weekend. Of course when it try to use my phone again, I'll forget and try to hold down the "1" and it will do something like remind me to wipe my ass. And in some update recently, they changed places, so now I have to learn this crap all over again.

There needs to be some uniformity among these things. Figure it the F out!

One thing I hate about my smartphone is the little teeny tiny keyboard for texting, even in landscape. I poke through it with one finger, having to backspace a buncha errors, then I see these fking people blowing through texting on their phones with their thumbs going so fast you can't even see them. Pisses me off, but not really a talent I care about attaining.

My new phone has rounded edges (Huawei P30 Pro) and it's a bit of a pain to text with when you need characters at the ends of the keyboard as they're wrapped around the side. I can't pretend to type as fast as some people, but then, I type proper words and not some truncated nonsense. I feel using correct spelling helps the Chinese understand what they're listening into easier...

That's probably one of the reasons why I still rock an aging (but still working like brand new) Note 3, besides the non-soldered battery.

All these new phones, these days, only focus more on the 4K/8K cameras and HDR/Dolby Vision department (like we had to shoot a Hollywood flick or some professional Porn clip), and less on the actual "smart" side of things.

My Note 3 also has a pencil that always comes in handy whenever I have to sign a digital document, without having to first print it, sign it and then scan. Not to mention that I can put on a new battery anytime I want, compared to today's iPhones, Oppos, Huawei and Samsungs. And the keyboard is user-adjustable (which is another bonus as well)

When it will finally dies, I don't know what I will get. But, certainly, I wouldn't spend $1200 or so on a phone with some sophisticated 8K camera that does barely anything for me.

looking on google earth to provide a map reference for the loo in question, i was highly amused to discover the building had been re-purposed as a children's play centre with a very apt name in the years since

i know i wasn't the only one to find it funny that the building that housed said toilet had become a branch of something called "wizzy world" now
