His biggest downfall was the "Read my lips...no new taxes" phrase and then eventually had to raise them.
They'd bitch about that now and they bitched about it then.
That, his blandness and Bubba's charm cost him his job.

After the shitstain that Reagan's Presdiency was, H.W was a fairly vanilla President even with the first Gulf War on his resume.
I can't think of anything offhand that I'm too angry with him about.
He was smarter than his kid was & knew what really invading & occupying Iraq would be like and avoided it.

You can't be the head of the CIA without being involved in sketchy shit.

It's going to get around 36F (38F tomorrow night) tonight and I'm peeking out the window at all the little kitties bundled in a chair on the porch,
and suppressing the motherly instinct to try to go out and get them in the nice warm house.
My brain knows they are just fine with their little fur coats but my heart disagrees.

In update news, Puff's neck seems to be a bit better. The tilt isn't as pronounced and she seems to be less disorientated when moving around.
She's good for dinner and nightly hot dog time but she skips morning feeding but I finally feed her at 2 PM when she comes out into the world.
I try to feed her in the house when I can but it's entirely up to her, and that's a night to night proposition.

This afternoon, she was a bit squirrel-ish so I sat on the front porch guarding her from food interlopers while she ate.
Well, except for the one who has no fear and is going to eat with her every time so I add extra.

Puff's the last one out of that first starving "Mama kitty" batch so she's worth the effort.
Patches & Ears may be gone, and Mooch and her kitties got adopted but Puff is still with us
and as skittish as she's always been is still a personal favorite of mine.

not sure how much of an impact this news might have on people outside the uk (or even some people in the uk) ......

pete shelley died this week, aged 63 - shelley co-formed buzzcocks in '75, a slightly more melodic and thoughtful take on the uk punk scene in the mid to late 70s

you probably know "ever fallen in love (with someone you shouldn't have)", if nothing else

to a whole generation of indie kids, buzzcocks, alongside such peers as the sex pistols, were an inspiration - people were still citing them heavily as an influence around the change of the millenium

    bot posting...

j'remember back before filehosts introduced monetisation and people
chipped in uploading stuff, even if it were a single set/video, for the
sake of sharing with the community? good times.

Ah. Rapidshare for all. Download manager queued up each night to doggedly dl all the links. Thousands of films and scenes etc obtained this way, all free. Life was good.

Then Depositfiles - may they rot in perdition - began paying uploaders; and the race to the bottom was on.
I and several others here modded a large forum, it swiftly turned sour but we sallied on; forces for good against the onrushing darkness.
Our efforts helped but ultimately failed against the $, with whore filehosts paying for forum access + owners and some staff firmly in favor of whoredom.
Frosty was the first to leave when Filesonic was allowed, smart move, I wish I would have too. Over time we all followed. I haven't been back there for years now, but I bet I know exactly what it's like, still.

I don't regret those days however, it was a rich experience and I learned a lot, plus made quality friends some of which persist to this day.
I also made quite an adventure of the experience, especially at the last. hee hee

Now, things are even better than the good ol' days - we (well, at least me) are well out of the frustration of working for free for for-profit organizations. (for free for for?)
We have faster internet, superior movie coding, and 1-link downloads as fast as you can dl them. well, mostly.

And we have this place! I consider myself a lucky guy.

Much is owed to Suzy, Bilbojr, Jenny, and all the mods here.

PopTarts® should be packaged individually, not 2 of them.

    That's all.
