    been thinking about americanisms today

while some of them really don't make sense linguistically ("math", "i could care less"), it really bugs me that, here in jolly olde england, we have a ground floor which is directly below the first floor - so getting to the first floor is actually making it to the second floor you've visited

maybe it's just my ocd kicking in, but calling it the first floor and having the second floor above is just so much better

sometimes, my brain tends to wander .....

another Voight-Kampff question for detecting Americans is to observe
if they use "LEGOs" as the plural of "LEGO".

As for the floor thing, I think it makes sense to treat the ground level
as the default and reference point for naming subsequent floors.

you never wondered why your nickname is 'tinycakes'?

(if it makes you feel better, I was unaware that spoons were meant to
be a divisible measuring system. When making something which requires
multiple spoons, I just tend to use a normal spoon and eyeball the amount)

kitchen sink wasn't draining well, so I resigned myself to having to
clear a blockage. I grabbed a facemask after remembering bond
    saying this:

No. Kitchen drains by far. Take my word for it unless you want to hear some horrific stories.
and it wasn't enough... should have gone with a hazmat suit.

On the plus side, the u-bend thing under the sink was very easy
to remove and the gelantinous black sludge causing the blockage
    cleaned up very easily.

I was ok until you said 'gelatinous'....That word always gets me. gah.

Kitchen drains will usually clog over time no matter what. The ease of using the garbage disposal exacerbates the problem. (I've always liked the word 'exacerbate' ) Generally never pour any kind of oil, grease, or fat etc. into drain, put it in like an old coffee container and into the trash it goes. Scrape plates into the trash, not the disposal.
