Here in Essen more people were healed from Corona (328) as we have infected (269)
Sadly 26 people died,20 were over 80yo.The oldest was 101yo and the youngest 56yo.

My daughter came home late as usual today and told me her company now has a contract to do testing for Detroit too.

They have dramatically expanded capacity to run it now and are keeping up with demand even with issues like machines clogging because the sample saline solution being used by some sending in samples is incorrect and they're still number one in total turnaround time as the third largest commercial lab. Donald's pet labs Labcorp and Quest still can't keep up even now.

Here's a side note I forgot. Pretty much every tech in her lab is a millennial. They all range around my daughter's age. She is working OT now training others who have actually volunteered from other departments that do testing for all kinds of other medical conditions because the capacity needed there has dropped off. These young people had the option of going on unemployment for a time with paid company health benefits until things settled down and those other departments saw the usual return in demand, but they chose to say I'll help while keeping in mind that everyday they have to use the same gear that is issued for protection over and over. They know the risk and they elected to do this.

My point is this. Assuming everyone is a lazy, I only care about myself person based on what generation they are classified as is stupid especially when it comes to anyone who chooses healthcare as their field of focus.

These are young adults stepping up just like we would have if it was needed and they deserve everyone's support regardless of their age.

the uk is doing a lot better than it otherwise might

read an internal nhs report yesterday that detailed how the social distancing strategy had kept the numbers down to levels that the nhs could cope with - naturally, it meant the pandemic would be with us for longer but it would come in steady waves rather than a tsunami

the initial projection was hitting our peak over easter - now we're looking at peaking in around 8-10 days (although it's still very much a fluid projection)

we might not see much of a benefit to it in our everyday lives but, cumulatively, social distancing is having an effect and that message does need to be put out there to avoid people getting complacent - thankfully, not my job

what i can say is that i'm aware of how many nhs staff are becoming absent from the covid wards in at least 1 hospital through precautionary isolation or infection - the numbers of infected are coming in below projection but the numbers of staff on hand to treat them is falling too

it's still vital to keep washing hands, keeping our distance from other people and doing all the things we have been

I know it's totally off topic for the subject of this thread but this post is mainly for the people still here who were Suzy members a while ago.

For those of you who remember him, a former staff member there who's username is Pheonixx (aka Marty) suddenly showed up out of the blue and sent me a PM saying he was still alive and kicking. From the short version of what he told me has happened to him, it is literally a freaking miracle that he is still alive.

I thought it might be good to share some good news for a change here.

Maybe on Broken v1 ????? Not at Suzy, I just checked.

I hit OTB by mistake once in his profile when I was purple and of course nothing happened so that's why he added the custom title he's been using forever.

I think I vaguely remember him.

On a on-topic note, I think I've mostly got this beat. Still fatigued but most of the phlegm is gone (and what I got left, I think it's from allergies).

We're not using any cough medicine anymore but I do have a cough drop a couple of times each day, and that helps break up what little stuffiness there is.

Enjoying milk and the rest of the dairy with everyone else in the world.

Honestly though, I don't think I would have made it if I was still smoking, because there was ONE night I told myself if I got any worse I would go to the ER.
My HEVC/H.265/x265 videos can be played with either VLC or MPC-HC

And when we sleep, would you shelter me in your warm and darkened grave..?
